Distinguished and Famous people from Heritage Highway

1. Joseph Lyons (1879-1939)

Joseph Lyons was an Australian politician and the tenth Prime Minister of Australia, serving from 1932 to 1939. He was born in Stanley, Tasmania, which is near the Heritage Highway area. Lyons played a key role in stabilizing Australia during the Great Depression, introducing various economic reforms. He was the first Australian Prime Minister to die in office.

2. Ricky Ponting (born 1974)

Ricky Ponting is a former Australian cricketer and one of the greatest batsmen of all time. He was born in Launceston, Tasmania, which is also located near the Heritage Highway region. Ponting captained the Australian national cricket team from 2004 to 2011 and achieved numerous records during his career. He is renowned for his aggressive and dominant style of play.

3. Charles O'Connor (1854-1902)

Charles Yelverton O'Connor was an Irish-Australian engineer who played a prominent role in developing Western Australia's infrastructure. He was born in Gravelmount, County Meath, Ireland, but later moved to Tasmania. O'Connor designed and supervised the construction of major public works, including Fremantle Harbor and the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme, which brought fresh water to the Western Australian goldfields.

4. John Bowden (1806-1881)

John Bowden was an Australian landscape artist known for his picturesque landscapes and coastal scenes. He was born in Bridport, Dorset, England, and immigrated to Van Diemen's Land (now Tasmania) in 1824. Bowden depicted many landscapes in the Heritage Highway vicinity, capturing the beauty of the Tasmanian countryside during the 19th century.

5. Greg Wells (born 1968)

Greg Wells is a successful music producer, songwriter, and musician. He was born in New Norfolk, Tasmania, which is situated close to the Heritage Highway area. Wells has collaborated with various renowned artists, including Adele, Katy Perry, and Pharrell Williams. He has received several Grammy nominations for his contributions to the music industry.

6. Sir John Franklin (1786-1847)

Sir John Franklin was a British Royal Navy officer and explorer who led several Arctic expeditions in search of the Northwest Passage. Although not born in Tasmania, he is associated with the region due to his significant exploration efforts there. Franklin served as Lieutenant-Governor of Van Diemen's Land (now Tasmania) from 1837 to 1843 and made significant contributions to the colony.

7. Karen Greenlees (born 1948)

Karen Greenlees is an acclaimed ceramic artist known for her unique pottery creations. She was born in Longford, Tasmania, which is near the Heritage Highway region. Greenlees has showcased her work in various exhibitions and galleries, both in Australia and internationally. Her pottery often incorporates Australian flora and fauna, reflecting the natural beauty of Tasmania.
